Have you ever wondered how tea became an important part of Chinese culture—not simply as a beverage, but as an expression of art, craftsmanship, philosophy, and social life?
Xi’an offers a unique place to explore this question.
As the ancient capital of China and the heart of Chang’an, Xi’an was once a major center of political, cultural, religious, and international exchange. During the Tang Dynasty, tea culture flourished alongside Buddhism, poetry, ceramics, and the Silk Road. During the Song Dynasty, tea became even more refined, developing into an art closely connected with aesthetics, literature, and intellectual life.
This October, IACT invites international tea lovers, tea students, educators, cultural learners, and Chinese tea enthusiasts with strong English skills to join a 4-day immersive tea culture study journey in Xi’an.
Rather than simply visiting historical sites, we will explore Chinese tea through objects, places, techniques, costumes, tasting, cultural experiences, and historical context.

Discover Fu Tea, tea transformation, historical trade, and modern biotechnology.
This provides an opportunity to examine Chinese dark tea not only as a traditional product, but also as an example of how heritage and modern science can interact.

In Yunnan, we explore tea origins, ancient tea forests, terroir, and living tea communities.
In Sichuan, we explore cultivated tea, tea trade, endangered craftsmanship, Chan tea, and living urban tea culture.
In Xi’an, we step into the world of tea civilization—where tea interacted with imperial culture, religion, art, ceramics, literature, trade, and international exchange.
Together, these experiences help us understand Chinese tea not simply as a collection of tea varieties, but as a living cultural system.
